As inflation fears are getting a second wind, market watchers discouraged by the last consumer price index reading will be watching for an inflation gauge that is less well known than the CPI but preferred by those who actually set interest rates — the Federal Reserve. The core personal consumption expenditure price index, or core PCE, unlike CPI, excludes volatile food and energy prices to make underlying inflation easier to see, and it will be announced April 26.
