The week ahead: Gensler makes pitch on swing pricing; Powell goes to school

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will host a town hall with educators that will be broadcast live on the web and will answer audience questions.

SEC Chair Gary Gensler will also answer questions from the House Financial Services Committee about topics including his agency's unpopular swing pricing plan and other initiatives.

• On Sept. 26, the Census Bureau will release numbers on new home sales for August and the Conference Board consumer confidence survey for September will be released.
  
• Revised data for second-quarter GDP comes out Sept. 28, as does the number of initial jobless claims.

• Ventura County Employees' Retirement Association on Sept. 25 and Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund on Sept. 27 are among the pension funds this week that have investment actions on their board meeting agendas.

• SEC Chair Gary Gensler will testify before the House Financial Services Committee on Sept. 27 in a hearing focused on oversight of the agency. Republicans are likely to press Gensler on a host of the agency's initiatives, including proposals on swing pricing and climate disclosure.
  
• Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Sept. 28 will host a town hall with educators where he will respond to questions from the in-person audience and virtual participants from across the country. The Fed on Sept. 20 held interest rates steady as it continues its efforts to quell inflation without overcooling the economy.

• U.K. GDP figures will come out Sept. 29 as will the European Union's year-over-year CPI data for September.

• The China Manufacturing Purchasing Managers index for September will be released Sept. 29.
