The Senate on Thursday confirmed Wally Adeyemo as deputy secretary of treasury in a voice vote.
Mr. Adeyemo, a former senior adviser at BlackRock who held several positions in the Obama administration — including assistant secretary of treasury for international markets and developments, and deputy national security adviser for international economics — will be the first Black deputy secretary of treasury, the department's No. 2 post.
The Senate Finance Committee of March 3 also approved his nomination by a voice vote after he earned bipartisan support during a Feb. 23 confirmation hearing.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen congratulated Mr. Adeyemo in a statement and said he is everything the department needs right now. "He has spent his career working at the intersection of America's national security interests and our economic ones," Ms. Yellen added. "In the process, he's become a master of shuttle economic diplomacy, helping keep America's economy strong at home and competitive abroad."
