Singapore state investment company Temasek opened a new office in Paris on April 10 and selected Nagi Hamiyeh to be its new head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Hamiyeh will be supported by Benoit Valentin, who holds multiple titles including deputy head of EMEA, head of partnership solutions, head of private equity fund investments and head of impact investing.
Hamiyeh is based in Paris and Valentin is based in London, a spokesperson confirmed.
Together, they will grow Temasek’s EMEA portfolio and presence, Temasek chair Lim Boon Heng said at the launch of the office in Paris.
Temasek had S$382 billion ($287 billion) in assets as of March 31, 2023, of which around €32 billion ($34.8 billion) or 12% of the portfolio, was invested in EMEA, predominantly in Europe. The firm plans to further invest S$20-25 billion in the region over the next five years.
Temasek has been in Europe since 2014 when it first launched a London office. It later opened a Brussels office in 2020, and the region now has over 50 employees, of which 35 are investment professionals.
Hamiyeh has been with Temasek for 19 years and was most recently head of the portfolio development group. He succeeds Uwe Krueger who has transitioned to the new position of vice chair for EMEA.
Aside from Hamiyeh and Valentin, the EMEA team also includes managing directors responsible for regional or sectoral coverage within the region, the spokesperson said.
