Khalid al Rumaihi was named CEO of the 6.3 billion Bahraini dinar ($16.6 billion) Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Co., Manama, according to a news release from the Kingdom of Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund.
Mr. al Rumaihi has been head of the fund's board investment committee and member of its board of directors since 2015, the news release said.
He succeeds Mahmood H. Alkooheji, who has been CEO of the sovereign wealth fund since its inception in 2006. Mr. Alkooheji's plans were not disclosed.
Mr. al Rumaihi previously was chief executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board and also serves chairman of Bahrain Real Estate Investment (Edamah) and the Bahrain Development Bank.
Suha Mubarak Matar, spokesman for the fund, could not be reached immediately to provide further information.
