Alexander 'Sasha' Davidovich joined Abu Dhabi Investment Authority as one of its global heads-quantitative research and development for the sovereign wealth fund's strategy and planning department.
A spokesman for the fund, which has $686 billion in assets according to Global SWF — a firm that tracks state-owned investment funds — confirmed the appointment but did not comment further.
The quantitative research and development team is a newly created investment group within ADIA's strategy and planning department. A news release announcing Marcos Lopez de Prado as global head-quantitative research and development in the strategy and planning department, dated September, said the team a multidisciplinary team drawing on new scientific developments in areas such as machine learning, big data and high-performance computing.
Mr. Davidovich will build a technology platform for ADIA's quantitative research and development unit from scratch, thereby avoiding issues that can sometimes come with working on legacy platforms, a source familiar with ADIA said.
Mr. Davidovich has worked at a number of investment banks. His most recent role could not be learned.
