Deputy Director of Operations

Report to the Director of Operations. Ad hoc reporting to investment officers in asset classes

Job Duties:

• Provide operational oversight and leadership for investment technology related initiatives, including implementation of an Investment Book of Record and other significant software applications

• Utilize both requisite investment knowledge and RFP management to oversee the procurement process for investment-related systems and services from end-to-end, including RFP development and issuance, evaluation committee organization

• Monitor transaction communications and take appropriate corrective action to ensure accurate data flow between parties, including the custodian bank and facilitate account and market openings

• Drive account opening processes with new vendors/managers and monitor associated fees

• Oversee the preparation of external reports, including the comprehensive annual financial report, quarterly financial reports, and other public-facing reports

• Provide oversight of various human resources functions including interviewing, preparing documentation and onboarding of new staff, ensuring consistency in the application of applicable laws, rules and regulations

• Provide oversight for approving requests for responding to audits, examinations and requests for information

• Responsible for oversight of documentation related to all investment processing, working with Operations staff to manage the investment through the investment approval process in a timely, well documented manner

• Oversee creation and maintenance of a comprehensive list of all investments and the status of each investment from initial diligence to funding

• Supervise employees, monitor schedules, provide assignments and training, provide on-going performance feedback

Preferred Qualifications/Desired Competencies:

High ethical standards and commitment to the fiduciary responsibilities of a pension fund

Demonstrated advanced experience in active trading processes and investment-related software and services

Broad experience managing a diverse and complex procurement portfolio, including extensive experience in RFP management

Demonstrated advanced experience independently drafting correspondence to audiences at various levels, both internally and externally to the organization

Excellent oral communication skills and ability to present information to others, both individually and in a group setting in a clear, concise manner

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work under supervision, and take a highly detail-oriented approach to work

Demonstrated ability to exhibit meaningful discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive materials

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; MBA/Master’s degree preferred

10 years of Operations Management experience, preferably in a Finance-related organization
