Texas Teacher Retirement System, Austin, committed a total of $465 million to four alternative investment strategies in May, a transaction report for the $179.9 billion pension fund showed.
TRS investment officers earmarked $365 million to three private equity funds, with the largest commitment — $190 million — to TA XIV-A. Existing manager TA Associates will seek investments in U.S. middle-market growth companies in the technology, health care, financial services, and consumer and business services sectors.
A commitment of $100 million went to Providence Strategic Growth Fund V, which will invest in lower middle-market U.S. software and technology companies. The fund's manager, Providence Strategic Growth Capital Partners, is a new firm for the retirement system.
Existing manager Orchid Asia Group received a $75 million commitment for investment in Orchid Asia VIII, a venture capital fund whose portfolio managers will acquire active minority stakes in Chinese companies.
TRS investment officers committed $100 million to HSREP VIII Co-Investment, managed by existing manager Harrison Street Real Estate Capital, the pension fund’s transaction report showed.
