New York State Teachers' Retirement System, Albany, is seeking a consultant or consulting firm to help the pension system with environmental, social and governance issues.
This would be the pension system's first ESG consultant, John Cardillo, a spokesman the $121.8 billion pension system, wrote in an email.
"Services will be provided as-needed and as-requested," said an RFP on the pension system's website. "No minimum amount of work is guaranteed."
The contract will run for five years. Although the pension system intends to offer a contract to a single bidder, the RFP said hiring multiple bidders is possible.
The pension system is seeking expertise in ESG "engagement and advocacy" and stock proxy voting programs. The winning candidate must be able to "identify or provide education, research and training on ESG issues," the RFP said.
Proposals are due Feb. 3. Presentations by candidates will take place in mid-March. The contract is expected to be awarded May 1.
