Metropolitan District Commission, Hartford, Conn., hired AQR Capital Management and Wellington Management to run a total of about $50 million in active domestic equities for its $225 million pension fund, said Kevin Condy, research analyst at Dahab Associates, the commission's investment consultant.
The commission issued an RFP in January to diversify its domestic equity portfolio. Wellington previously managed the entire portfolio in an all-cap strategy.
AQR will run an active large-cap portfolio, while Wellington will run active midcap and small-cap portfolios. Specific amounts have yet to be determined.
Mr. Condy did not have finalist information.
