Industriens Pension, Copenhagen, Denmark, committed 1 billion Danish kroner ($157 million) to a renewable energy fund run by Actis, according to the pension fund's spokesman.
Actis Energy 5 invests in companies that both produce and distribute electricity in emerging markets.
"For many years, our energy investments in emerging markets have delivered very attractive returns and led to significant (carbon dioxide) reductions per year," Jan Østergaard, head of unlisted investments at Industriens Pension, said in a news release Tuesday.
"Solar and wind energy in developing countries make important contributions to the green transition at a global level, and with the right partners, the area can continue to provide solid, long-term returns. We continue to see great opportunities as an investor," he added.
The 189 billion kroner pension fund has already invested 10 billion kroner in green strategies. Renewable energy allocations were not available.
