Colorado Fire & Police Pension Association, Denver, disclosed commitments and investments totaling $146 million.
The $6.6 billion pension fund's investment staff invested $70 million in Viking Global Equity, a long-short equity strategy managed by Viking Global Investors, and $60 million in hedge fund Garda Capital Partners Fixed Income Relative Value Opportunity Fund. The fund also committed €15 million ($16 million) to European buyout fund Syntagma Capital Partners 1, said J. Scott Simon, chief investment officer.
All are new managers for the pension fund, Simon said.
As of June 30, the actual allocations to private markets, absolute return and long/short equity were 31.5%, 8.9% and 6.7%, respectively; their respective targets are 31%, 9% and 6%.
Separately, the pension fund terminated Kabouter Management from a $65 million active international smidcap equity portfolio, said Simon. The firm was terminated due to overweight to small-cap equities, he said. Assets will be reallocated among existing equity managers.
As of June 30, the actual allocation to global public equity was 38.6%; the target is 38%.
