AP6 probed for investing in propofol maker
May 02, 2013 01:00:00 AMThe Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund is under scrutiny by human rights group Amnesty International for investing in pharmaceutical companies producing propofol, a drug used in the U.S. for execution. Christina Hillesöy, the fund's ethics and environment manager, said that the drug is widely used in medicine. Moreover, U.S.-based global pharmaceutical company Hospira Inc., in which the fund has invested, has taken adequate steps to avoid selling the drug to U.S. prison hospital. However, Elisabeth Löfgren, press officer of Amnesty International, said investors are concerned about the way other companies deliver and distribute the drug.
