Phil Eckman was promoted to president of the workplace solutions division of Transamerica, effective June 1, spokeswoman Julie Quinlan confirmed.
Mr. Eckman, who also will become a member of the Transamerica management board, succeeds Kent Callahan, who will retire at the end of the year. Until he retires, Mr. Callahan will be vice chairman of workplace solutions, a job that will help him provide a transition for Mr. Eckman, according to a news release Thursday.
The vice chairman's job is new and will remain in effect through the end of the year when Mr. Callahan retires, Ms. Quinlan said in an email.
Mr. Eckman has been chief operating officer of the workplace division. Succession details will be announced soon, Ms. Quinlan said.
Mr. Callahan joined Transamerica in 1986 and has held a series of management jobs, culminating, in May 2020, with his appointment as CEO of workplace solutions.
"We thank Kent for his significant achievements in guiding Workplace Solutions to its current prominent position serving investors, employers, and financial professionals," Will Fuller, Transamerica's president and CEO, said in the release.
Mr. Eckman has worked at Transamerica for 25 years. He also serves as president of Transamerica Retirement Advisors LLC and is a board member of the Transamerica Investors Securities Corp.
