Eric Stevenson was named president of the retirement plans business at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., the company announced Wednesday.
He succeeds John Carter, who recently was promoted to president and chief operating officer-elect of the financial services businesses at Nationwide. Mr. Carter took over the job held by Kirt Walker, who will become Nationwide's next CEO in October. The current CEO, Stephen Rasmussen, is retiring.
Mr. Stevenson has been senior vice president of distribution for Nationwide's retirement plans business, which serves more than 2.5 million participants, the news release said.
"Nationwide's leadership bench strength is impressive, and we believe Eric is the right person to build on the momentum we've had with both public and private-sector partners," Mr. Carter said in the news release.
Joe Case, a company spokesman, wrote in an email that Mr. Stevenson's successor "is to be determined."
