Alex Stanic will join AustralianSuper as head of core equity for the super fund’s international equities investments.
Whether the role is new could not immediately be learned.
Stanic will join in May and work in the A$365 billion ($229.5 billion) Melbourne-based super fund’s London office.
His appointment continues AustralianSuper’s international expansion and is part of its further internalization of international equities, a statement said. More than half of the fund’s assets are invested in equities, and about a A$118 billion is allocated to international equities. About 30% of the international equities portfolio is internally managed, with plans to increase that proportion to a significant majority of assets by 2030.
“We are delighted to welcome Alex to the fund, adding further outstanding fund management expertise to our growing global equities platform,” said Mark Hargraves, head of international equities and private equity at AustralianSuper, in the statement. “Alex’s appointment reflects our focus on enhancing the fund’s global investment capability, particularly within international equities, our single largest asset class allocation. We believe Alex’s strong track record of active management will help to generate long-term performance for members in public markets.”
Executives expect assets to grow to a total A$500 billion by 2030, and that 70% of all assets will be internally managed by 2035.
Stanic was head of global equities and a partner at Artemis Investment Management. His day-to-day portfolio responsibilities are being managed by the wider global equities team, Artemis CIO Paras Anand said in an emailed statement.
“We are committed to continuing to develop our leading global equities capability for clients. We have a highly experienced investment team that is committed to delivering strong client outcomes in global equities and growing the capability,” the statement said.
Artemis has about $36 billion in assets under management.
Prior to Artemis, Stanic held roles at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, and River and Mercantile.
