Providence Equity Partners has closed buyout fund Providence Equity Partners VIII at more than $6 billion, a spokeswoman confirmed in an email.
The closing exceeds the $5 billion fundraising target. The fund focuses on investments in communications, education and information services and media companies in North America and Western Europe.
Investors include the $216.2 billion New York State Common Retirement Fund, Albany; $122.2 billion State of Wisconsin Investment Board, Madison; $65.8 billion Alaska Permanent Fund Corp., Juneau; $32 billion South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission, Columbia; and $30 billion Texas Municipal Retirement System, Austin.
