Russell Chapman has been named as head of investment risk transfer at consultancy firm Hymans Robertson in a newly created role, according to a news release.
Chapman will be expected to work within defined benefit plans and oversee their investment requirements during the pension risk transfer process. The appointment follows a record 2023 for pension buy-in volumes in the U.K., totaling £50 billion ($62 billion).
Having been with Hymans Robertson since 2003, Chapman’s previous responsibilities at the firm included integrated risk management, advising clients on building liability driven investing portfolios and, most recently, building a team with expertise in investment risk transfer.
“It’s an exciting time in risk transfer at the moment with so many DB schemes reaching the end game and heading to whole-scheme buy-in. I’ve worked on a number of transactions over the past few years and love being able to deal with any problems that arise, helping clients with a step-by-step approach,” Chapman said in the release.
Established in 1921, Hymans Roberston specializes in consultancy on public sector pensions, and has U.K. offices in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham.
