Jase Auby was named chief investment officer of the $157.6 billion Texas Teacher Retirement System Austin, effective Jan. 1.
Currently deputy CIO, Mr. Auby replaces Jerry Albright, who will stay on with the pension fund as senior managing director, global investment initiatives for up to a year to assist in the completion of multiple investment projects, said Jarvis V. Hollingsworth, chairman of the board, in a webcast of Friday’s board meeting.
It is the completion of a three-phase succession plan initiated in 2016, Mr. Hollingsworth said.
Mr. Albright, in announcing his impending departure as CIO, marveled at the growth of the pension fund from a “sleepy trust fund to a dynamic investment fund that is ready to conquer the world ... it’s been an amazing part of my life.”
Mr. Auby was named deputy CIO in 2017 when Mr. Albright was promoted to CIO following the departure of T. Britton Harris III. Mr. Harris became president, CEO and CIO of the $36.5 billion University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Co., Austin.
