Iwan Lanz will join Pensionskasse SBB, Bern, Switzerland, as managing director in November, according to a news release on the pension fund's website.
Mr. Lanz will take over the management of the pension fund from Markus Hubscher, who leaves later this year. Details of Mr. Hubscher's future plans could not be learned.
PK SBB, the pension fund for employees of Swiss railways, has 18 billion Swiss francs ($19.1 billion) in assets.
"Iwan Lanz is a proven specialist and a profound connoisseur of the Swiss pension landscape," Markus Jordi, president of the board of trustees, said in a translation of the release.
Mr. Lanz was head of pensions at Swiss Federal Pension Fund PUBLICA, Bern, Switzerland. He will leave at the end of October, a spokeswoman said. Details of Mr. Lanz's replacement could not immediately be learned.
PUBLICA has 40 billion Swiss francs in assets.
