Doris Bianchi was named director of the Swiss federal pension fund PUBLICA, Bern, effective Nov. 1, a spokeswoman confirmed.
She will succeed Dieter Stohler, who is leaving the 41 billion Swiss franc ($43 billion) fund on Sept. 30. Mr. Stohler has been in the position since Jan. 1, 2012.
Ms. Bianchi is currently an assistant to the head of the Swiss Federal Department of Home Affairs, Alain Berset. Prior to that, she was the executive secretary of SGB, the Swiss trade union federation.
Ms. Bianchi has excellent knowledge of occupational retirement savings, known as the second pillar, PUBLICA said on its website.
Details of Mr. Stohler's next appointment were not available. PUBLICA said in September 2019 that he is set to become a consultant the pension fund industry.
