Kannan Venkataramani was named senior managing director, global equities, for the C$105 billion ($83.5 billion) Ontario Municipal Employees' Retirement System, Toronto.
Based in New York, it is a new position. Mr. Venkataramani reports to Ralph Berg, OMERS' executive vice president and global head of capital markets.
Mr. Venkataramani was previously a managing director, capital markets Asia, based in Singapore. A spokesman said in an email that a successor for that position has not been named yet.
"In leading the global equities program, Kannan will deploy a strategy focusing on hand-picked quality assets using a disciplined and consistent approach, aligned with capital markets investment objectives and risk tolerance," Mr. Berg said in an internal memo to staff provided to Pensions & Investments by the spokesman. "He will also be responsible for leading and developing a high-performing team of professionals who will drive investment results on behalf of our OMERS members, while building positive relationships externally, with investee companies and the investment community."
OMERS has a 31% allocation to public equities, according to its website.
