Ralph Berg was named chief investment officer of Ontario Municipal Employees' Retirement System, Toronto, effective April 1.
Mr. Berg will succeed Satish Rai, who will "transition to an advisory role" until his retirement in late 2024, according to a Wednesday news release.
Mr. Berg is currently executive vice president and global head of capital markets, and has been at OMERS for the past decade, the release noted. As global head of capital markets, Mr. Berg oversees public market investments, which make up just over half of OMERS' assets.
A spokesman for OMERS said by email that Mr. Berg's successor as global head of capital markets will be announced at a later date.
Mr. Rai has been with OMERS for eight years, and was named CIO in 2018, the release added.
OMERS had net assets of C$119.5 billion ($92.8 billion) as of June 30.
