Steven Meier was named chief investment officer of the New York City Retirement Systems.
He will begin Aug. 1, said a news release Tuesday from Brad Lander, New York City comptroller and fiduciary for the five pension funds in the $265.9 billion New York City Retirement Systems.
Mr. Meier succeeds Alex Done, who resigned Dec. 31 and has since joined private equity firm Platinum Equity as a managing director. The retirement system's deputy CIO, Michael Haddad, has been serving as interim CIO. A spokeswoman for Mr. Lander said in an email that Mr. Haddad is leaving to pursue "the next chapter in his career." She said there is no specific information yet on the deputy CIO position.
Mr. Meier, who will also serve as deputy comptroller for asset management, was most recently an independent board trustee at Six Circles Funds/J.P. Morgan Access Multi-Strategy Funds, and has also served in the past as assistant treasurer and senior principal investment officer for Connecticut Treasurer Shawn T. Wooden, the principal fiduciary of the $43 billion Connecticut Retirement Plans & Trust Funds, Hartford.
Before then, he had spent a decade at State Street Global Advisors, where he eventually became executive vice president and chief investment officer for global fixed income, currency and cash management. Past roles include a stint as director, global head of fixed income and money market electronic trading and senior trader in the global financing group at Credit Suisse and time at Oppenheimer Capital, Merrill Lynch Capital Markets and Irving Trust Co.
