Canadian pension fund AIMCo announced a number of changes to its leadership team, including the departure of Marlene Puffer as CIO.
The C$168.9 billion ($124.5 billion) Alberta Investment Management Corp., Edmonton, said Puffer is stepping away as CIO — a role she has held since Jan. 30, 2023. At the time of her appointment, AIMCo said she would serve as head of both public and private investments, responsible for real estate, infrastructure, private equity and private debt and loan, fixed income, private mortgages, economics and fund strategy, and public equities, and would address clients' needs for both liquid and illiquid investments.
Alongside the announcement of her departure, AIMCo said it had named Justin Lord to the newly established leadership role of global head of public markets. Lord also joins the executive team at the Canadian pension fund, and oversees public equities and fixed income. He has been head of public equities for the last two years, and has more than 19 years of public markets investment experience — 12 of those with AIMCo, a news release said.
AIMCo also named David Scudellari as senior executive managing director, global head of private assets and strategic partnerships. The role is a broadened executive team role, the release said. He will oversee AIMCo’s private assets, including private credit, infrastructure, real estate and private equity across the globe. He continues as an executive team member and leader of strategic partnerships.
Scudellari joined AIMCo in January 2023 as director-head of international investment. He previously served as global head of credit investments and private equity at Public Sector Pension Investments, Montreal.
"I am very pleased to appoint Justin and David to their new leadership roles in leading investments for AIMCo,” said Evan Siddall, CEO, in the release. “I am especially excited to welcome Justin to the executive team. These appointments confirm the benefits of our focus on developing talented investment leaders from within the firm and Alberta. David and Justin both bring decades of investment experience, and I am excited to be so well-positioned to continue to fulfill our purpose to our clients, as we execute our investment strategy under their leadership.”
