Rebecca Wyke was named CEO of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System, Augusta.
Ms. Wyke, who will join the $17.6 billion Augusta-based pension fund later this summer, will replace Sandra J. Matheson, who has the title of executive director.
Ms. Matheson said in a phone interview that she will remain with MainePERS through the end of 2021 to assist in the transition and complete some in-progress projects.
Ms. Matheson, who has been executive director of the pension fund since April 2009, has planned to retire for some time, she said, but projects and then the COVID-19 pandemic had delayed those plans.
Ms. Wyke is the current president of the University of Maine in Augusta and had previously served as vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of Maine System.
