Ray Joseph will be joining the $29.6 billion Los Angeles Fire & Police Pensions as CIO on June 14, replacing Tom Lopez, said Ray Ciranna, general manager, in an email.
Mr. Lopez is retiring after 40 years with the pension system. His last day will be June 18.
This is not the first time Los Angeles Fire & Police Pensions offered Mr. Joseph a position. In 2013, Mr. Joseph turned down the general manager post. Pension fund officials had offered him the job after former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa twice vetoed the board's selection of the interim general manager William S. Raggio to the permanent position.
Executive search firm Korn Ferry assisted with the "exhaustive search," a news release said.
Mr. Joseph had been a vice president at Wilshire Advisors. Caroline Wolf, Wilshire spokeswoman, could not be immediately reached for information on Mr. Joseph's replacement.
