Mark Thompson was named chief investment officer at London CIV, according to the website for the pool of 32 London local authority pension funds.
Mr. Thompson replaced Michael Pratten, who has been acting as interim CIO of the £14 billion ($17 billion) pension fund.
"(Mr. Thompson) comes with enormous experience and a strong track record of achievements. This will be of enormous benefit to the London CIV as we move forward," Lord Bob Kerslake, chairman of the pool, said in a news release.
Mr. Thompson was CIO at HSBC Bank U.K. Pension Scheme, London, which has £28 billion in assets.
Details about Mr. Thompson's and Mr. Pratten's replacements could not be learned.
