Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System, Frankfort, returned a gross 29.94% for the fiscal year ended June 30, spokesman Gregory A. Hall said in an email.
The $25.7 billion pension fund's return exceeded its policy benchmark return of 28.65%.
For the three, five and 10 years ended June 30, the pension fund returned an annualized gross 13.34%, 13.23% and 10.32%, compared to the respective benchmarks of 12.94%, 12.42% and 9.93%.
TRS returned a gross 5.8% for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020.
By asset class for the fiscal year ended June 30, domestic equities was the top performer with a gross return of 47.7% (above its benchmark of 42.12%); followed by international equities, 38.86% (above its 36.29% benchmark); private equity, 38.66% (no benchmark); high yield, 16.35% (15.62%); real estate, 6.74% (no benchmark); cash, 0.03% (0.09%); fixed income, -0.13% (-0.39%); and timberland, -5.57% (3.1%).
As of June 30, the actual allocation was 40.7% domestic equities; 21.2% international equities; 15.8% fixed income; 7.3% high yield; 6.1% alternatives (includes private equity and timberland); 5.8% real estate; and 3.1% cash.
