Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System, Frankfort, returned a gross 5.8% for the fiscal year ended June 30, spokesman Gregory A. Hall said in an email.
The $20.5 billion pension fund's gross return exceeded its policy benchmark return of 4.2%.
For the three, five and 10 years ended June 30, the pension fund returned an annualized gross 7.5%, 7.2% and 9.6%, compared to the respective benchmarks of 7%, 7.2% and 9.3%.
For the year ended June 30, 2019, TRS returned a gross 5.9%.
By asset class for the fiscal year ended June 30, fixed income was the top performer with a gross return of 10.5% (above its benchmark of 10%), followed by domestic equities at 6.3% (below its 6.6% benchmark); international equities, 5.6% (-4.4%); real estate, 4.5% (2.7%); timberland, 4.4% (0.3%); private equity, 0.2% (10.7%); and high yield, -2.8% (-1.1%).
As of June 30, the actual allocation was: 39.8% domestic equities; 22.1% international equities; 15% fixed income; 7.7% high yield; 6% real estate; 5.9% private equity; 2.3% cash; and 1.2% timberland.
