Investment returns of the $54.2 billion Illinois Teachers' Retirement System, Springfield, met or trailed its benchmark as of Dec. 31 in several time periods.
Trustees were told during a Feb. 28 board meeting. that the defined benefit plan returned 4.3% in the quarter ended Dec. 31, compared to 4.7% for the policy index benchmark. The one-year return was 13.4% vs. 17.1% for the benchmark, a performance report showed.
Annualized returns over longer periods ended Dec. 31 were: three years, 8.6% (benchmark, 9.5%); five years, 6.9% (7.7%); seven years, 8.1% (8.8%); 10 years, 8.5% (8.8%); 15 years, 6.6% (7%); 20 years, 6.1% (6.1%); and, 9.4% since inception onJuly 1, 1982, (10.1%).
