Ghiane Jones was named deputy chief investment officer of the $66.4 billion Illinois Teachers' Retirement System, Springfield.
It is a new position, said R. Stanley Rupnik, executive director and CIO, in an email.
She will join TRS on Oct. 10 to work in the system's new Chicago office, Rupnik said.
"The deputy CIO position … is an important addition to the leadership team as the system expands to the Chicago office and continues additions to the investment team," he said.
Jones most recently held the roles of managing principal and consultant at Meketa Investment Group in the firm's Chicago office.
An email request to Meketa about Jones' replacement was not immediately answered.
Rupnik said TRS initially worked with recruiter Hudepohl & Associates in creating the new deputy CIO position but TRS employees ended up posting the position and interviewing candidates internally.
