Tim Schauer was named executive director of the $5.1 billion Houston Firefighters' Relief & Retirement Fund.
He begins Feb. 1, a spokesman said in an email. Mr. Schauer is currently a principal at Cornerstone Government Affairs, a federal and state government relations consulting firm.
Mr. Schauer will replace Ralph D. Marsh, who retired in October.
Mr. Marsh had joined the pension fund in 2014 following a one-year term as president of the National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators.
The spokesman said there is no interim executive director and Mr. Marsh has assisted the system as needed since his retirement.
