Caitlin Gubbels has been named senior managing director and global head of private equity at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Toronto, effective Oct. 15.
Gubbels will lead CPPIB’s private equity program globally, including teams dedicated to investments in direct private equity, Asian private equity and private equity funds and secondaries, said a news release Aug. 14.
Gubbels will succeed Suyi Kim, who has decided to leave the organization after 17 years to “take on new global investment leadership opportunities,” the news release said.
During her tenure at CPPIB, also known as CPP Investments, Kim “opened our Hong Kong office in 2008, establishing our presence in the Asia-Pacific region,” the release said.
Gubbels, who initially joined CPPIB in 2010, currently serves as managing director-head of funds, where she leads the private equity funds business.
Gubbels will keep her position as head of funds until Oct. 15, adding that “a process is in place” to replace her in that role, a spokesperson said.
CPP Investments had a total of C$646.8 billion ($472.8 billion) in assets as of June 30, according to a separate news release Aug. 14. The firm’s private equity net investments totaled C$136.8 billion as of that date.
