Geraldine Jimenez was named director of investment strategy and risk at CalSTRS, Ricardo Duran, spokesman, said in an email.
Investment strategy and risk is a new unit in the investment branch of the $233.9 billion California State Teachers' Retirement System, West Sacramento. Ms. Jimenez will lead the unit, which implements and monitors the pension fund's overall portfolio strategy and risk profile.
She will report to Scott Chan, CalSTRS' deputy chief investment officer.
Ms. Jimenez was previously a portfolio manager leading CalSTRS' investment engagement unit. Mr. Duran said CalSTRS is assessing its resources regarding a potential replacement for that position and should have a plan by September.
The new investment strategy and risk unit consolidates total fund portfolio management, risk management and innovative strategies into one unit, which the news release notes are not individually new to CalSTRS. The creation of the new unit, however, "allows for a single dedicated team to look at overall risks, opportunities and collaborative partnerships," the news release said.
