Dan Bienvenue has been appointed CalPERS' deputy chief investment officer for total portfolio strategy, said Megan White, spokeswoman for the $350 billion pension fund.
It is a new position, and Mr. Bienvenue will report directly to Yu "Ben" Meng, the CIO of the California Public Employees' Retirement System, Sacramento.
Mr. Bienvenue will be responsible for overseeing total fund investment and operational strategies, and for implementing asset allocation and investment strategies. He will also oversee CalPERS' investment office business management needs, including strategic planning, financial reporting, expense management and personnel management.
Mr. Bienvenue, the pension fund's former managing investment director, global equity, has been acting chief operating investment officer since January 2019 following the departure of Elisabeth Bourqui. No one has been named yet to fill the interim COIO position, and Mr. Bienvenue is retaining some of his acting COIO duties in this new role.
