Joe McDonnell was named CIO of Border to Coast Pensions Partnership, Leeds, England, the pension pool said in a news release Thursday.
Border to Coast is the largest local government pension scheme pool in the U.K. Its 11 partner funds had combined assets of £60 billion ($78.6 billion) as of March 31.
Interim CIO John Harrison will continue to act as an adviser to Border to Coast, the release said. Mr. Harrison was named interim CIO in December 2021, following the departure of the pool's first CIO Daniel Booth, who left to set up a family office.
Mr. McDonnell said in the release that Border to Coast "has established a reputation as an effective and responsible investor on behalf of its LGPS funds."
Mr. McDonnell was managing director and head of portfolio solutions at Neuberger Berman in London.
A spokeswoman for Neuberger Berman declined to comment on plans for the position. On Sept. 12, Neuberger Berman announced the hiring of Niall O'Sullivan for the newly created role of CIO for multiasset strategies, EMEA.
