Simon Warner was appointed head of portfolio management and Justin Howell was named chief operating officer for investments at A$160 billion ($109.4 billion) Aware Super, Sydney, the super fund announced in a statement on Thursday.
Both will report to Damian Graham, chief investment officer of the fund, and will start in September. Both roles are newly created, a spokeswoman said.
Mr. Warner will lead portfolio management across listed equities, private equity, real estate and infrastructure. He has also been tasked with working with the heads of these areas to build the fund's capabilities in managing these asset classes.
He was previously the global head of public markets at AMP Capital, where he was part of the global equities and fixed income business that was sold to Macquarie Asset Management, an AMP Capital spokesman confirmed.
The head of public markets at the AMP Investments business is currently held by Duy To, he said. AMP Capital manages A$178 billion in assets.

As COO for investments, Mr. Howell will help establish operations teams that support the fund's growth with a focus on strategy and business management functions that includes investment governance and direct investment capabilities, the statement said.
Mr. Howell joins from Pendal Group where he was global chief operating officer. Pendal Group was acquired by money manager Perpetual in January, creating a fund management firm with more than A$201 billion under management. Mr. Howell's role will be folded into the larger Perpetual firm following his departure.
