For public employees to understand the value of their benefits and build a more secure retirement, better benefits communications and financial education are a must. Gone are the days when word of mouth in the break room would suffice to educate younger workers. Also gone, in most systems, are the days when a pension could be relied on to meet all their financial needs.
The challenge for retirement plan administrators today is developing new and better ways to reach and teach public employees. The payoff when communications and education efforts are effective comes in greater worker satisfaction and retention.
