Clifford Lau joined William Blair Investment Management as head of the Chicago-based money manager's newly opened Singapore office and a portfolio manager on the firm's emerging markets debt team, a company spokesman confirmed.
Mr. Lau comes to William Blair from Columbia Threadneedle Investments, where he served as head of fixed income, Asia-Pacific, and a senior portfolio manager for Asian fixed-income assets.
Mr. Lau left the firm in June 2019, a Columbia Threadneedle spokeswoman said Thursday.
He will be joined in Singapore by Johnny Chen, part of the 12-person team of emerging market debt managers William Blair hired late last year from NN Investment Partners.
A William Blair news release said the firm plans "to add further investment and distribution professionals to support its presence in Singapore in due course."
As of June 30, the firm had $56.8 billion in assets under management.
