Value Partners Group hired Sean Chang as co-chief investment officer for fixed income alongside Gordon Ip, who had been the CIO of fixed income since 2017.
The new arrangement was made effective on Monday. Both share responsibility for leading the fixed income team to create and manage investment solutions for clients, the firm said in a statement on Wednesday. They report to Louis So, co-chairman and co-chief investment officer of the group.
Regarding the decision to move to a co-CIO structure, a spokesman said: "Fixed income is an important pillar of our growth strategy. We are keen to add senior investment resources to further enhance the firm's fixed income investment capabilities to better serve the investment needs of institutional and wealth management clients, and the appointment of Sean as the co-CIO of fixed income is a testament of our strong commitment to achieve this ambition. The fact that Sean will be based in Singapore also helps us build a stronger presence and to be closer to clients in the south-east Asian markets."
Mr. Ip continues to be based in Hong Kong while Mr. Chang is based in Singapore.
Value Partners had $6.1 billion in assets under management as of Dec. 31.
Mr. Chang was head of fixed income at Ping An of China Asset Management (Hong Kong), which he joined in 2018. Spokesmen at Ping An could not immediately be contacted for comment.
