Carola Schroeder was named head of portfolio management at Union Investment, effective Feb. 1.
Schroeder will succeed Andreas Koester, who left in December, a news release said.
She will lead a 311-person fund management team and will oversee around €316 billion ($339 billion) in liquid assets.
"We are delighted to have won such a highly experienced capital markets expert for this role," Frank Engels, CIO and member of Union Investment's board of managing partners, said in the release. "Carola brings with her many years of extensive expertise that will benefit our company's successful investment platform."
Schroeder was a member of the board of directors at Barmenia Versicherungen in Wuppertal with responsibility for investments, health insurance performance, claims and human resources.
