Benjamin Deng will join Sun Life as president for Asia Asset Management on Jan. 1, the insurer said in a statement on Dec. 13.
In the newly created role, he will lead the insurer’s asset management business’ investment strategy and operations while based out of Hong Kong. He will join the Asia executive team and report to Manjit Singh, president of Sun Life Asia, and Steve Peacher, executive chair of the firm’s institutional asset management business SLC Management.
The insurer, which is headquartered in Toronto, manages $1.51 trillion in assets.
Deng joins from Ping An Insurance, one of Asia Pacific’s largest insurance groups, where he was group chief investment officer and oversaw $740 billion in AUM. He previously held senior roles at China Pacific Insurance Group and AIA.
Guo Shibang, director of Ping An Group's investment committee will take up Deng's responsibilities, a spokesperson confirmed.
