SMBC Group has appointed two executives to the U.S. equities team of SMBC Nikko Securities America, a spokesman confirmed.
John Mitchell was named executive director, while Steve Koenig joined the firm as a managing director and senior research analyst. Both positions are new.
Mr. Mitchell will act as the primary relationship manager with clients that are focused on health care in the U.S. and Canada. He will be based in Boston and report to Carl Hamann, U.S. sales supervisor.
Mr. Koenig will oversee the firm's coverage of the software industry in the U.S. He will report to Ed Maguire, U.S. research principal.
Mr. Mitchell was an institutional salesman working for SVB Leerink Partners, while Mr. Koenig was a managing director of equity research at Wedbush Securities. Representatives from both firms could not be immediately reached for comment.
