Sean O'Connell was named president and CEO of Securian Asset Management, effective July 1.
He will succeed David Kuplic, who plans to retire June 30 after 37 years in the money management industry, spokesman Jeff Bakken confirmed in an email.
Mr. O'Connell, who will continue in his current role as senior vice president and chief investment officer of Securian Asset Management, will also succeed Mr. Kuplic as CIO of parent company Securian Financial.
Mr. O'Connell joined the firm in 1993 when it was known as Advantus Capital Management as a senior analyst, real estate investments.
Securian Asset Management had more than $50 billion in assets under management as of Dec. 31.
