Ron Kalifa has joined Brookfield Asset Management as vice chair and head of financial infrastructure investments.
A spokesperson for Brookfield said this is a newly created role.
The addition of Kalifa will allow Brookfield to "increase our footprint in this critical area of focus," said an Oct. 23 news release. Brookfield's financial infrastructure strategy focuses on identifying opportunities in digital assets and services that form the backbone of the global financial economy, the release noted.
Brookfield has invested or committed about $5 billion in financial infrastructure companies.
Kalifa will be based in London and work with Anuj Ranjan, president of Brookfield's private equity group, the spokesperson noted.
Kalifa also currently serves as chairman of Network International, a Middle Eastern payments business, as well as a senior independent director on the court of directors of the Bank of England.
Kalifa will continue as chairman of Network International, the spokesperson confirmed.
On June 9, Brookfield announced it would acquire Network International for about $2.76 billion.
According to the Bank of England website, Kalifa was knighted in the Queen's Jubilee Birthday 2022 Honors List for services to financial services, technology and public service.
Brookfield has $850 billion of assets under management.
