Ian Berry was named head of River and Mercantile infrastructure, leading a new investment area for the firm, a spokeswoman confirmed.
The firm will start by launching an infrastructure equity income strategy, a news release said Tuesday.
Further hires are expected to assist in the growth of the business.
"Ian and his team have an excellent track record in this competitive market," said James Barham, group CEO, in the news release. "Ian is actively progressing a pipeline of well-advanced sustainable investment opportunities for our new fund, and we look forward to helping our clients meet both their growth and long-term cash-flow needs whilst delivering on their ESG requirements with our new strategy."
River and Mercantile had £45.4 billion ($58.4 billion) in assets under management as of Sept. 30.
Mr. Berry was most recently head of infrastructure equity at Aviva Investors. Darryl Murphy was appointed managing director, infrastructure, overseeing infrastructure debt and equity, in March. Mr. Berry's infrastructure equity fund management responsibilities were taken over by Sean McLachlan, senior director, infrastructure equity, a spokesman said.
