David Blanchett was named managing director and head of retirement research at QMA, a spokesman confirmed in an email.
The position is new. Mr. Blanchett will help the firm build up the firm's defined contribution business. He will report to Linda Gibson, managing director and chief business officer for QMA.
Mr. Blanchett was head of retirement research at Morningstar Investment Management. The company plans to search for a replacement, a Morningstar spokeswoman said.
QMA had about $119 billion in assets under management as of March 31.
