Kaitlin M. May was named head of global institutional management at Putnam Investments, spokesman Jon Goldstein confirmed in an email.
Effective July 1, she will replace Jeffrey L. Gould, who will retire.
Ms. May will be responsible for overseeing the firm's global institutional asset management business, which runs roughly $98 billion in assets. She will be based in Boston and report to CEO Robert L. Reynolds.
Ms. May is chief operating officer of Putnam's alternatives business, 37 Capital. She will retain her responsibilities for 37 Capital.
Putnam Investments had $193 billion in total assets under management as of March 31.
