Antulio Bomfim joined Northern Trust Asset Management as senior vice president and head of global macro strategies within the unit's $470 billion global fixed income portfolio.
He assumed the newly created position on Aug. 29, confirmed Tom Pinto, a Northern Trust spokesman, in an email.
Mr. Bomfim reports to Thomas Swaney, executive vice president and CIO of global fixed income.
Most recently, Mr. Bomfim was a special adviser to the Federal Reserve Board as well as serving as a senior adviser to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, according to a Northern Trust news release Tuesday.
Mr. Bomfim oversees monitoring of interest-rate strategy, systematic volatility, liquidity and monitoring systematic risk globally.
"Within the global fixed income fixed income team, our fundamental tenet is that investors should be compensated for the risk they take, (which) manifests itself in our management of four key risks – interest rate, volatility, prepayment and credit," Mr. Swaney said in the news release, noting "Antulio's expertise is well-suited to leading our multi-disciplined global macro fixed income team."
Northern Trust Asset Management managed $1.3 trillion in assets as of June 30.
